ABOUT YOUTH AGAINST CANCER

Our purpose encompasses a multitude of goals revolving around providing a supportive, comfortable, and tailored system of academic tutoring to young cancer patients who struggle to meet their educational expectations.

MISSION & HISTORY.

YAC was founded on the basis that many young cancer patients in grades

K-12 struggle to stay on track with learning and completing school assignments/projects as a result of the time they have to spend in the hospital. This often leads to uncharacteristic grades, high levels of mental stress, and trouble attaining the education needed to pursue specific career pathways.

Our organization has the ultimate goal of providing peer support to all current or previous youth cancer patients to ensure that they are able to attain an adequate amount of knowledge and perform well in their academic undertakings in order to provide them with the same, equal opportunities as other students.

Specifically, our mission is to connect high school students with these patients across the the nations in order to offer specialized tutoring and mentoring 1 on 1 sessions. Not only do students help to clarify and teach any concepts or problems that they are struggling to understand, but also encourage and recommend specific extracurricular programs that correlate to their interests and future goals.

We are all well aware of the fact that cancer can often be a restrictive and disheartening disease as it relates to daily life. However, we hope that our organization will be able to turn this condition into a source of motivation for students to, with the help of their peers, continue to grow and pursue their passions, just as all youth should be given a fair opportunity to do.

PARTNERS.

Currently, we are partners with St. Luke's, Coordinated Health, and several University hospitals across the United States. However, we hope to continue to grow outside of the 20 hospitals we are already located in. If you would like to also partner with our organization, please contact us (information on the contact page), as we are very willing to extend our connections within the regional community.
